St. Peter’s is a great first and last stop when visiting Cape Breton
National Geographic has rated the Cabot Trail as one of the top 10 drives of a lifetime http://traveler.nationalgeographic.com/drives/cabot-trail.html.

Cape Breton Island is a must see destination vacation for all tourists. The challenge in visiting a new area is trying to figure out the best routes and itineraries to experience it. Here is one suggestion. The Cabot Trail and the Fortress of Louisbourg are destination icons that are worth seeing. These attractions will lead you to some other places that are worth visiting. For example: Baddeck is a beautiful town known as the beginning and end of the Cabot Trail. The Cabot Trail will lead you to places like Pleasant Bay, Cheticamp, and Margaree Valley. A day in Louisbourg will introduce you to Sydney which is Cape Breton’s most populated area. St. Peter’s, Cape Breton, is a perfect location to access all other areas of Cape Breton, therefore, it is also a great first night destination and a last night destination while on Cape Breton.
Typically, visitors will drive in from Halifax or New Brunswick. The drive from Halifax to Cape Breton is 3 hours, Truro to Cape Breton is 2 hours, New Brunswick border to Cape Breton is 2.5 hours. St. Peter’s is situated perfectly for tourists wanting to visit the Cabot Trail and/or Louisbourg. St. Peter’s is approximately 35 minutes from the Canso Causeway and approximately 1 hour to the Fortress of Louisbourg or the beginning of the Cabot Trail. You can leave Halifax in the morning and be golfing, shopping, or kayaking around St. Peter’s during the second half of the day. The scenic drive along the east coast of the Bras d’Or Lakes is beautiful and is a common route taken to Sydney, Rita’s Tea Room, Ski Ben Eoin, and The Lakes 18 hole Golf Course, and Louisbourg. St. Peter’s has great accommodations, waterfront gourmet and family dining, shopping, gas, liquor store, and pharmacy. The Bras d’Or Lakes Inn www.brasdorlakesinn.com has detailed maps of Cape Breton’s attractions and is located in St. Peter’s along Highway 4.
