Music Workshops and Jam Sessions during Celtic Colours 2015

For 9 days in October and throughout Cape Breton Island, locals and visitors will again be celebrating the 2015 Celtic Colours International Festival. The island will be immersed in upbeat and unique opportunities to experience and participate in events throughout the island celebrating the island’s Celtic culture, traditional music, dance and food.

The Bras d’Or Lakes in St. Peter’s is proud to play host to the Kitchen Rackets Jam Sessions and Workshops Monday October 12 to Thursday, October 15.

The Jam Sessions are after Celtic Colours concerts in the immediate area in and around St. Peter’s. They kick-off around 10:30 pm each evening, Monday through Thursday. Travelling music enthusiasts are welcome to join in a circle of local players, or sit back and listen. Admission is $5, or just $2 with that evening’s concert ticket stub. Free for participating players.

The workshops provide the opportunity for musicians to meet, learn or join in with others throughout the Festival. There are numerous instructional sessions among many topics Monday through Thursday. Costs vary from $20 to $35. There are also artisan demonstrations .

The Bras d’Or Lakes Inn is proud to be a venue for music this summer, six days a week, excluding Tuesday. The Inn will showcase quality music groups featuring singers/fiddlers/piano players/guitar/and more.

Music Camp on the Canal – 2015

Music Camp – Friday, June 5th to Sunday, June 7th

Music Camp on the Canal is a weekend experience designed by KitchenRackets.Org for amateur players at all levels and ages. The weekend begins with a reception/jam session on Friday evening at the Inn. Saturday workshops and a Saturday night All Star Concert featuring faculty and special guests are held nearby in the village. After the Saturday night concert a Ceilidh/Kitchen Racket with campers and players from the St. Peter’s community is held at the Inn. On Sunday, there’s time for a morning workshop or band practice at the Inn as well. The Saturday luncheon and supper and Sunday luncheon will be held at the Inn. The Sunday closing luncheon features performances by Band Lab participants (which could be you!).

Enjoy a weekend of close-up encounters with your instructors and fellow players from far and near, a local artisans market and of course the great food and cozy accommodation at the Bras d’Or Lakes Inn.

Note that registration, lunches, supper and workshop events are included in the Music Camp registration fees.

Kitchen Rackets Offers Music Workshops during Celtic Colours 2014

For 9 days in October and throughout Cape Breton Island, locals and visitors will be celebrating the Celtic Colours International Festival.  The island will be immersed in upbeat and unique opportunities to experience and participate in events throughout the island celebrating the island’s Celtic culture, traditional music, dance and food.

The Bras d’Or Lakes in St. Peter’s is proud to play host to the KitchenRackets Jam Sessions Monday October 13 to Thursday, October 15 (see other What’s Happening) as well as Music Workshops. The workshops provide the opportunity for musicians to meet, learn or join in with others throughout the Festival. There are nineteen instructional sessions among ten topics Monday, Oct 13 to Friday,  October 17. Costs vary from $10 to $35.  There are also artisan demonstrations from Encore Jewellery, Chandler’s Art and others TBA.

Monday, October 13 – Thursday, October 16th, 2014 

During 4 nights, when the Celtic Colours concerts are in close range to St. Peter’s, KitchenRackets invites  everyone, whether players and listeners, to join them afterwards for an authentic acoustic jam session. Sorry, no minors due to liquor license regulations.
Hosted sessions will begin at approximately 10:15 nightly, or a bit later to enable people to allow travel to the Sessions Lounge at the Inn. $5 admission. $3 with a ticket from the Celtic Colours concert that evening. Free for participating jammers. Gate goes towards support of our youth music programs.

Evening Entertainment at the Inn

June to October 2014 
We have entertainment in our bar lined up from 6 pm to 8 pm every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday throughout June July and August. On Thursdays enjoy local musicians as well as join in on the Ceilidh and Jam session in the Sessions Lounge 7 pm to 9 pm and 9 pm to .

We also have KitchenFest! happening at the end of June and music during Celtic Colours week in October. The dining room and bar menus are available from 5 pm to 8 pm if you wish to eat while taking in the talent.

 

 

 

Celtic Music – KitchenFest! at the Inn 2014

Sunday, June 29th to Friday, July 4th

The Bras d’Or Lakes Inn is proud to be a venue for KitchenFest! 2014, a new Cape Breton celebration taking place from June 29th-July 5th, 2014 around the island. Kitchen Fest! is a celebration of the Music, Culture, and Language of the Gael and includes great music and great food in a pub environment. The Inn will showcase quality music groups featuring singers/fiddlers/piano players/guitar/and more.

Paddle and Watersport Introduction 2014

Saturday, May 24th and Sunday, May 25th
1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Bras d’Or Lakes Inn waterfront and dock area.

The Bras d’Or Lakes Inn is excited to be a watersport recreation equipment dealer representing the AKONA, Emotion, Lifetime, Rave and Dockstart brands. These products will be available for rental and/or purchase.

On May 24th or 25th come out for a complimentary watersport experience while getting your feet wet in the Bras d’Or Lake. AKONA stand up paddle boards (SUP), Emotion  and Lifetime kayaks, Rave water trampoline, Dockstart PFD’s and AKONA wetsuits and snorkeling equipment will be made available for everyone to try. Watersport instruction will be provided by Michelle Richards, Richmond County Recreation instructor.

Event partners include the Municipality of Richmond and Surf Association of Nova Scotia (SANS).

The Restaurant Reopens for the Season on May 11, 2014

Please join us for a another great dining season full of tempting fare, appetizers, mains and desserts.

There will be a Mother’s Day Brunch from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm on May 11. The restaurant will then be open for dinner and every day after for buffet breakfast and evening dinner until mid October.

The hot and cold buffet breakfast will be available every morning from 7:30 am to 10:00 pm. The fare includes omelets and crepes made to order by the chefs with a variety of fillings to chose from. As well you have the choice of scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, croissants, cheese, cereals, juices, tea and coffee.

Dinner sittings will be available between 5:00 pm and 8:00pm., closing a reasonable time later.  Be sure to check out the daily evening feature on the Dining page or on Facebook. The Saturday evening buffet will also be offered again this summer, start date to be determined.

The trio Echo will be performing.

They play a wide variety of acoustic music from many different decades including pop, rock, bluegrass, folk, country as  well as originals from their newly released CD “Midnight Laundry”.   Rich vocals and harmonies with a great variety of music are sure to please.  Hope to see you there!!
